Mission Statement

The mission of the Mental Health Court is to promote early identification of defendants with severe mental health/developmental disabilities in order to promote coordination and cooperation among law enforcement, jails, community treatment providers, attorneys and the courts for defendants during the legal process and achieve outcomes that both protect society and support the mental health care and disability needs of the defendant.

Court Rule 30.1 Amended 02/04/2010

HB 86 - Treatment in Lieu of Conviction
The newly enacted HB 86 effective September 30, 2011, expands eligibility for treatment in lieu of conviction (ORC 2951.041) to include “offender whose mental illness or intellectual disability contributed to their offense”. The exact impact on the MHDD Court is undetermined at this time. However, additional assessments, determinations and supervision responses will obviously be required.
