Judge Lillian Greene
The Court is saddened to learn of the passing of Judge Lillian J. Greene. Judge Greene was on the Bench of Common Pleas Court from 1987 until her resignation in 2008 when she became the Cuyahoga County Recorder.
Judge Greene was the first Black female elected to the Cuyahoga County Court of Common Pleas, General Division, without being appointed first. She was the second Black female to serve in non-judicial political office in Cuyahoga County government office when she became Recorder. She received her bachelor's degree from Case Western Reserve University and her Juris Doctorate from Western Reserve School of Law. Judge Greene was later inducted into the Case Western Reserve University School of Law's Hall of Fame.
Judge Greene also served as president of the Norman S. Minor Bar Association, named for Norman Selby Minor, the first African American to work as an Assistant Cuyahoga County Prosecutor.
"Judge Greene was kind, honest, and hardworking," says Administrative and Presiding Judge Brendan J. Sheehan. "She applied those traits to all of her decisions on the Bench."
Our thoughts are with Judge Greene's husband of 39 years, Morris Devezin, Sr., son Nelson Devezin and daughter-in-law Kieshia, granddaughter Lillian, and the rest of her family.
