Judge Turner Joins MHDD Docket

Judge Deborah M. Turner is joining the Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court Mental Health and Developmental Disabilities docket.

Judge Turner was appointed by Administrative and Presiding Judge Brendan J. Sheehan to replace Judge Robert McClelland, who is retiring at the end of December.

In 2003, the Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court created the Mental Health and Developmental Disabilities Court dockets along with assistance from community stakeholders. The MHDD Court has five judges, and a dynamic team of highly trained staff including a coordinator, jail liaison specialist, probation officers, and behavioral health liaisons and community support treatment specialists. The dockets serve approximately 650 individuals with severe and persistent mental illness or developmental disabilities annually.

The collaborative effort between the courts and community agencies has helped to provide improved care for the MHDD offenders while promoting increased safety for the community through therapeutic approaches and evidence-based practices.

Judge Turner will join MHDD Chair Judge Hollie L. Gallagher, Judge Deena R. Calabrese, Judge Michael P. Shaughnessy, and Judge Shannon M. Gallagher.
