Celebrating 100th Birthday

January 12, 2012 begins the year-long celebration of the 100th birthday of the Cuyahoga County Courthouse. The celebration includes a lecture series and tours of the courthouse.

Unlike the other divisions, judges in the General Division have what is called "general jurisdiction" to hear civil and criminal cases. Under Ohio law Municipal courts have jurisdiction to hear civil cases with a value of up to $15,000.00; Common Pleas civil jurisdiction has no upper limit. Criminal jurisdiction includes all crimes defined by statute as felonies, as well as other certain criminal offenses.

Where is the Common Pleas Court?

The General Division of the Common Pleas Court is located in the Justice Center, on the southwest corner of Lakeside and Ontario, in downtown Cleveland. On-street parking is very limited; if you drive, you should plan to park in a lot or garage. The Justice Center is only two blocks from Public Square, and is near to several RTA bus and rapid transit lines.
