Settlement Day 2021
(Cleveland) – After taking a year off due to COVID-19, the Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court hosted its annual Settlement Day on Wednesday, October 6, 2021.
Organized by the Court’s Dispute Resolution Department, Settlement Day seeks to clear as many cases as possible during the Court’s business hours.
- 40 hearings were set
- 18 cases were settled prior to the hearing, or were continued to another date
- 22 hearings were held
- There were 11 volunteer mediators
- There 11 settlements for a 50% settlement ratio and each mediator got at least one settlement
Dispute Resolution Administrator Rebecca Wetzel says the department handles disputes requiring Arbitration, Mediation, Business Mediation and Foreclosure Mediation.
On Settlement Day, ADR schedules as many hearings as possible and invite attorneys to volunteer to mediate the cases. ADR provides donuts and coffee in the morning and sandwiches during the lunch hour.
