Interim Sheriff Sworn-In

Interim Cuyahoga County Sheriff Joseph Greiner was sworn into office on Thursday, February 23, by Administrative and Presiding Judge Brendan J. Sheehan.

Cuyahoga County Executive Chris Ronayne appointed Chief Deputy Greiner as interim sheriff following the resignation of Sheriff Steven Hammett. The permanent replacement will be recommended by the Executive and must be approved by County Council. Greiner has been with the sheriff’s department since 2012.

“Chief Deputy Greiner has been a valuable member of the Cuyahoga County Sheriff’s Department for over a decade and his dedication to service is clear,” Executive Ronayne said in a news release announcing the appointment. “Based on his strong leadership and experience, we believe he will be a tremendous asset in this role.”
