Tammy Sherman Named Chief Probation Officer
The Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court General Division is pleased to announce that Deputy Chief Probation Officer Tammy Sherman has been promoted to the position of Chief Probation Officer.
Sherman is only the sixth Chief named in the history of the Court’s Adult Probation Department. She replaces Chief Probation Officer Maria Nemec, who recently retired. Sherman has served as Deputy Chief Probation Officer since July of 2020. She joined the court first as an intern in the Probation Department, and then as a probation officer in 2004. She also served as a supervisor, overseeing the development and implementation of the Court’s GPS monitoring program.
"I am so proud to lead this amazing group of probation officers,” says Sherman. “They work extremely hard to make positive change in people’s lives, and I am excited to take on this new challenge.”
As Chief Probation Officer, Sherman will manage the Court’s Probation Department and its nearly 200 employees. The Chief Probation Officer develops policy, coordinates the department’s budget, and oversees all aspects of personnel decisions in the department.
“Tammy is a dedicated employee and a key part of our Court’s operations,” says Administrative and Presiding Judge Brendan J. Sheehan. “Her institutional knowledge of the Probation Department and many years working as an officer and supervisor makes her well qualified to lead the department.”
Sherman graduated from Cleveland State University in 2004 with her bachelor’s degree in sociology and a certificate in criminology.
